Brian McCormickBrian Hale (Hondo) McCormick, 63, of Vermont died at 5:17 a.m. March 27, 2020, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.

He was born Sept. 9, 1956, in Rushville, a son of Hale McCormick and June Bucy Counselman McCormick.

Surviving are one son, Matthew McCormick of Chicago; partner Marilyn McIntyre of Lubbock, Texas; one sister, Tammie McCormick of Vermont; six nephews; two nieces; two great-nephews; and one great-niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ed Counselman and Gary Counselman; maternal grandparents, John and Erma Horner Bucy; and paternal grandparents, Willis and Lillian Easley McCormick.

He graduated from VIT High School in 1974 and Spoon River College in 1976.

He opened The Pool Hall and was co-owner of The Corral. He was a farmer. He served as a director on the McDonough County Soil and Water Conservation District Board from 1992 until the present, currently serving as the Secretary-Treasurer of the Board. He also was a member of the Western Illinois Soil and Water Land Use Council.

Private graveside services will be held. Burial will be in the Vermont Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Vermont Rescue Squad or to the Brian “Hondo” McCormick VIT Ag Scholarship in care of Table Grove State Bank.
