Laura McMillenLaura Frances McMillen, 96, formerly of Rushville died at 2:51 a.m. May 3, 2015, at the Liberty Village Retirement Home Garden Court in Princeton.

She was born June 2, 1918, in Frederick Township, Schuyler County, a daughter of Vern and Nellie Black Strong. She married Robert McMillen on Dec. 23, 1951, in Springfield. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2004.

She also was preceded in death by five siblings, Randall Strong, Jack Strong, Dorothy Jones, George Strong and Martha Shores.

Surviving are two daughters, Judge Alesia McMillen of Rushville and Michelle (and Tony) Gonzales of Princeton; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great grandchildren.

She attended Pleasant View School and graduated from Rushville High School. She also attended Western Illinois Teacher’s College and taught in one-room schools and elementary schools in Schuyler County for the next 40 years.

She was a member of Pleasant View Christian Church since childhood and later Rushville First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. John Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Rushville First Christian Church Disciples of Christ or Culbertson Gardens.
