Robert McMillen, 83, of Rushville died at 4:55 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 21, 1920, in Oakland Township, Schuyler County, a son of Harry and Iva Stambaugh McMillen. He married Laura Frances Strong on Dec. 23, 1951, in Springfield. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Judge Alesia McMillen of Rushville and Michelle (and Tony) Gonzales of Princeton; two brothers, Bill (and Marie) of rural Vermont and Norman (and Ruth) of Rushville.

A member of Schuyler American Legion Post 4, he was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran, serving from 1937 to 1952.

He worked for Schuyler Telephone Co. until 1956 and then worked for Adams Rural Electrical Co-op until retiring in 1982.

He served as a city of Rushville Ward No. 1 alderman from May 1965 to May 1981 and as mayor from March 1981 to May 1987.

He was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Rushville. He also was a member of Illinois Odd Fellows.

Services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Revs. E. Ambrose Stump and Ray Greenfield officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to his church or Culbertson Memorial Hospital.
