She was born Sept. 13, 1916, in Bernadotte, a daughter of Oscar Franklin and Ethel Nina Johnson Hopping. She married Lyle Mathis on June 29, 1936, in Fulton County. He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1977.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth "Shorty" Mathis; three grandchildren, Shawn Meyer, Ronnie "JR" Meyer and Andrew Mathis; one great-grandson, Clayton Ward; and three brothers, Russell, Harold "Pete" and Kenneth Hopping.
Surviving are one son, Gary "Ike" (and Melissa) Mathis of Rushville; two daughters, Hazel (and Charles) Geer of Tucson, Ariz., and Edie (and Terry) Buckalew of Browning; two sisters, Pauline Trone of Beardstown and Geraldine Stevens of Rushville; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was a life-long homemaker.
Funeral services were held Monday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Steve Granadosin officiating. Burial was in Browning Cemetery.
