Mrs. Ethel N. Hopping, 91, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., formerly of Astoria, died at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 1985, in Culbertson Memorial Hospital, Rushville.
She was born Sept. 23, 1893, in Fulton County, a daughter of Edward and Sarah White Johnson. She married Oscar F. Hopping April 1, 1913. He died July 15, 1943.
One son, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Harold Hopping of Ipava, and Kenneth Hopping of Good Hope; three daughters, Mrs. Verna Mathis of Browning, Mrs. Pauline Trone of Beardstown, and Geri Stevens of Thousand Oaks, with whom she had lived 21 years; one sister, Mrs. Anna Seward of Astoria; 21 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Collis Trone officiating. Burial was in the Union Chapel Cemetery near Astoria.
