Violet MelvinViolet L. Melvin, 84, of Lewistown died at 12:20 a.m. Jan. 20, 2012, at Prairie City Rehab and Healthcare Center in Prairie City.

She was born March 24, 1927, in Ipava, the daughter of Willis and Margaret Weese Cameron. She married Floyd Melvin on April 10, 1965, in Havana. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1998.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Cindy McBride; two stepdaughters, Viola "Babe" Keene and Linda Melvin; and one stepson, Jerry Melvin.

Surviving are five sons, Willard (and Cyndi) McBride of Canton, Rick (and Donna) McBride of Lewistown, Terry (and Ida) McBride of Bryant, Joe (and Mary Jo) McBride of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Ron (and Steve) Melvin of Minier; three daughters, Evelyn Hines of Lewistown, Bertha (and Chuck) Sneyd of Rochelle and Pauline (and Todd) Mahan of Bushnell; one brother, Bill (and Kim) Cameron of Lewistown; eight stepdaughters, Bonnie (and Adrian) Caulkins of Lewistown, Ethel (and DeWayne) Johnson of Ringgold, Ga., Nancy (and Larry) Coon of Elmwood, Shirley Taylor of Cuba, Marilyn (and Dale) Henderson of Urbana, Ohio, Penny (and Jim) Stambaugh of Cuba, Mary (and George) O'Connell of Jacksonville and Malissa West of West River, Md.; two stepsons, Floyd (and Becky) Melvin of Havana and Jim (and Debbie) Melvin of Marietta; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She farmed with her husband. She also worked as a CNA at various nursing homes.

Cremation will be accorded. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Spoon River Towers Community Room in Lewistown. Private burial for family only will be held at Cuba Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at Spoon River Towers. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.
