Floyd Melvin

Floyd J. “Penny” Melvin, 90, of Havana Healthcare Center, formerly of Lewistown, died at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.

He was born Nov. 12, 1907, in Pleasant Township, Fulton County, the son of James D. and Bertha Wallick Melvin. He married Garnett Medus. She preceded him in death. He married Roesella Daniels on Oct. 27, 1939. She died Oct. 4, 1960.

He married Violet Cameron McBride on April 6, 1965, in Havana. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Floyd of Havana, Jim of Marietta and Ronnie of Minier; ten daughters, Mrs. Adrian (Bonnie) Caulkins and Mrs. Jim (Penny) Stambaugh, both of Lewistown, Mrs. Marvin (Ethel) Johnson of Walsenburg, Colo., Mrs. Larry (Nancy) Coon of Elmwood, Mrs. Dallas (Shirley) Taylor of Cuba, Mrs. Dale (Marilyn) Henderson of Urbana, Ohio, Mrs. Mark (Mary) Brant of Jacksonville, Mrs. Nolan (Rosie) West of Hutchinson, Kan., Mrs. Charles (Bertha) Sheyd of Rochelle and Mrs. Dick (Pauline) Mahan of Vermont.

Survivors also include four stepsons, William, Rick and Terry McBride, all of Lewistown, and Joe McBride of Heyworth; two stepdaughters, Evelyn Hines of Lewistown and Cindy McBride of Peoria; 37 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

One son, Jerry, two daughters, Linda Melvin and Viola Keene, one grandson, two brothers and seven sisters preceded him in death.

He was a construction worker out of the Laborers Local in Wataga and also was a farmer. He was a former member of Farmington Moose Lodge.

Cremation will be accorded. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ridgon Cemetery in rural Midway with Rev. Warren Hughes officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Henry Memorial Home, Lewistown.
