She was born Sept. 6, 1927, in Browning, a daughter of James and Garnet Hughes McCombs. She married Paul E. “Abe” Merrill on July 31, 1952, in Hannibal, Mo. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1990.
She also was preceded in death by one brother, Richard McCombs; one infant sister, Ella Elizabeth McCombs; and one special friend, Robert Conner.
Surviving are one son, Reggie (and Donna) Merrill of Argenta; one daughter, Ellen (and Thomas) Stevens of Astoria; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was employed at Colonial Theater in Astoria. She worked at Cudahay’s in Rushville and packed K-Rations in Peoria. She was a homemaker and owned a farm in Schuyler County, where she helped with chores.
She was a member of Astoria Christian Church for over 50 years.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Astoria Christian Church with Gary Sheets officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.
