He was born May 31, 1953, in Beardstown, the son of Paul Eldon and Charlotte McCombs Merrill. He married Donna Kapper on July 3, 1976, in Decatur. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Ryan Paul (and Angeleen) Merrill of Jefferson City, Mo., and Christian Lee Merrill of Decatur; one sister, Ellen (and Tom) Stevens of Astoria; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Sophia and Allison.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a tire builder for Firestone. He earned a BS degree from ISU in Agricultural Science. During his leisure time he enjoyed playing his guitar. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
A funeral service was held Sunday at Shawgo Funeral Home in Astoria. Burial was at Astoria Township Cemetery. Moran and Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur was in charge of arrangements.
