VeteranMerlin Myers

Merlin C. Myers, 88, of Ipava died at 11:50 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008, at Astoria Gardens & Rehab Center.

He was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Astoria, a son of Charles A. and Mamie C. Curtis Myers. He married Wanda Danner on July 11, 1943, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Wayne Myers of Rochester, Minn., Jerry (and Theresa) Myers of Eddyville, Ky., James (and Pat) Myers of Columbia Heights, Minn., and Steve (and Sharon) Myers of Kansas, Okla.; one sister, Betty Lauralee Sedmack of Redlands, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was an Air Force veteran from 1944-1946.

He was a machinist at International Harvestor in Canton, retiring in 1981. He was a lifelong farmer.

He was a charter member of Berean Christian Church in Ipava, where he served as Elder and adult Sunday school teacher.

Services were held Saturday at his church with Pastor Doug Krukewitt officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery with military rites provided by Astoria American Legion Post #25. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to his church or Johnson Bible College, Knoxville, Tenn.
