Helen Mayall

Helen L. Mayall, 81, of Ipava died at 8:07 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2005, at Mason District Hospital in Havana.

She was born April 23, 1924, in Pekin, a daughter of Roy and Lucille Beadles Gray. She married Verlyn Mayall on Nov. 2, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. He died April 2, 1996.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Verlyn "Bud"; one sister, Harriet Lazodd; and four brothers, Bill, Gene, Dennis and Chuck Gray.

Surviving are one son, Rodney (and Jev) of Canton; eight daughters, Judy (and Ron) Reneau and Linda (and Curt) Schisler, both of Ipava, Sandy (and Ronald) Blemler of Normal, Sharon Thomson and Peg (and Mike) Hoyt, both of Macomb, Mary Jo (and Daniel) Wherley and Janice (and Jay) Steele, both of Table Grove, and Gayle (and Ted) Stoklosa of St. Louis; five sisters, Charlotte (and Delmer "Buss") McGinnis of Havana, Betty (and Bill) Harp of Easton, Maxine Sutton of Marshfield, Mo., Joan (and Jim) Roberts of Littleton, Colo., and Colleen Pitts of Phoenix; two brothers, Leo (and Laura) Gray of Lewistown and Bob (and Diane) Gray of Phoenix; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She worked for 14 years at McGraw-Edison in Macomb.

She was a member of Ipava Christian Church, where she served as deaconess and was president of its quilters club.

She served as president of the Ipava American Legion Auxiliary and was active in the Spoon River Scenic Drive.

Services were held Tuesday at her church with Rev. Kevin Kessler and Rev. Frieda Foland officiating. Interment was in Ipava Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to her church, the Ipava American Legion Auxiliary or the Ipava Fire Department.
