Charles McCombsCharles H. McCombs, 72, of Petersburg died at 8:34 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at his home.

He was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Schuyler County, a son of John and Margaret Louise Douglas McCombs. He married Shirley Ann Hunter on May 30, 1956, in Vermont. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Robin (and Rick) Mathieu of Elburn; two grandchildren; two nephews; one brother, Jack of Florida; and two sisters, Rosa Lee Stambaugh of Browning and Doris Thomas of Astoria.

Three brothers preceded him in death.

An Army veteran, he was a member of Springfield American Legion. He also was a member of the Springfield Kiwanis and Moose Heart Lodge of North Aurora.

He worked for Pierce Oil Co. and later for Ameritech as a draftsman for 25 years.

He was a member of Oakford United Methodist Church in Oakford, where services were held today at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Smith officiating. Entombment was in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield. Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg was in charge of arrangements.
