Edwin Christy Miller Sr., 74, of Beardstown, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at his home.

He was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Rushville, the son of Clarence Christy and Edna Louise Crews Miller. He married Velma Schall on Sept. 11, 1946, in Beardstown. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Edwin Miller Jr. of Browning and Greg Miller of Sullivan, Ind.; five grandchildren, MaLisa L. Mueller and Biller Miller, both of Springfield, Tracy E. Miller and John Miller, both of Browning, and Carla R. Nero of Sullivan, Ind.; and two great-grandchildren, Nicole and Jake Mueller.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Christy Miller.

He graduated from Astoria High School in 1941. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.

He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving as a medic on the island of Antigua in the Caribbean.

He was a farmer near Astoria and also worked for Moorman Feed of Adams County. He also was a carpenter with his father.

He was a counselor with Cass County Mental Health Department in Beardstown, Brokaw Hospital in Bloomington and retired in 1987 from St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.

Graveside services for the cremated remains will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mud Valley Cemetery near Astoria with Rev. Betty Hornback officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Mud Valley Cemetery Fund.
