Anna Miller, 99, Dies Wednesday

Anna A. Miller, daughter of William and Anna Schisler Cassel was born near Astoria on November 6, 1861, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Cable, on Oct. 25, at the age of 99 years, 11 months and 19 days.

On March 15, 1885 she was united in marriage to Jacob D. Miller of near Astoria, and to this union 7 children were born: Howard, deceased at age 7; Mrs. Alma Cripe; W. A. Miller; Mrs. Mary Yost; Clara, deceased at age 14; Mrs. Ruth Cable; and Clarence C. Miller, all living in or near Astoria. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 1 great, great-grandchild, besides many nieces and nephews.

After the death of her husband on April 7, 1954, she lived with her daughters until April, 1959, when she suffered a fractured hip and for 30 months had been bedfast and also blind. Early in life she united with the Old German Baptist Church, and with her husband on Sept. 12, 1889, was installed in the office of Deacon and called to the ministry in 1897, being ordained in 1909. She was faithful in her calling and bore suffering patiently. Several years ago she received the Anointing Service according to James V, which gave her much comfort.

She was the last of 4 children: two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Mummert of Astoria and Mrs. Mary Page of Vermont, and one brother, William W. Cassel of Astoria preceding her in death.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Mud Valley Church, conducted by Elder Jesse Wagoner, Camden, Ind., and Elder Morris Wagoner, Pyrmont, Ind. Burial was in the cemetery nearby.
