Maxine E. Leezer, 92, of Canton died June 16, 2025, in her home.
She was born Oct. 15, 1932, in rural Vermont, a daughter of Arthur and Twila Ruth Cox. She married Lloyd E. Leezer Sr. on Oct. 28, 1950, in Astoria. He preceded her in death.
She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Martha Bergstralh; one son, Lloyd Eldon Jr.; and three brothers, Max, Marcus and Maurice.
Surviving are one daughter, Marla Jo Hedden; one brother, George Cox of Lewistown; one sister, Cheryl (and Gary) Matteson of Vermont; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She graduated from VIT High School in 1950. She was a full-time stay-at-home mom but, when times were lean, she began working part-time at Kresge’s, Jupiter and Kmart. While employed at Kmart, she began working full-time and was able to retire from there in 1997.
She volunteered for the American Red Cross.
A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Steve Mason, was held Tuesday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton. Burial was at Vermont Cemetery in Vermont followed by a luncheon at American Grille in Canton.
