Fairy LeezerFairy F. Leezer, 97, of Canton died at 6:30 p.m. March 21, 2009, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born April 11, 1911, in Rushville, a daughter of Earl and Mary Alma Parker Settles. She married Freeman V. Leezer on Jan. 30, 1930, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1983.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Dry; five sons, Virgil, Lloyd, Clair, Carl and Burton Leezer; three grandchildren, Richard and John Leezer and Gina Atterberry; one great-grandson, Virgil Leezer III; and two sisters, Faye Settles and Frieda Trone.

Surviving are two daughter-in-laws, Maxine E. Leezer of Canton and Nancy L. Leezer of Petersburg; one brother, Paul Settles of Canton; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.

She grew up in the Rushville area and attended Kinderhook School. She was a farm wife and mother, and later worked at Stephens Cleaners in Ashland for six years. She later was a clerk for Secretary of State Office in Springfield, retiring in 1974.

She was a member of Church of Christ (Christian) in Rushville before transferring her membership to First Christian Church in Canton.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. John E. Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
