Mildred Kessler

Mildred KesslerMildred I. Kessler, 89, of Canton, formerly of Astoria, died at 2:27 p.m. Dec. 30, 2012, at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Canton.

She was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Browning, a daughter of George and Alice Watson Wilson. She married Dean Kessler on Sept. 4, 1941, in Astoria. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2003.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Wilson; and three sisters, Laura Smith, Mabel Beam and Alberta Kessler.

Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Gilbert of Peoria, Melba (and Robert) Baker of Astoria and Linda (and Franklin) Mikulich of Lewistown; one son, Kevin (and Tammy) Kessler of Canton; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker. She was a cook at Ipava Grade School and cleaned houses.

She was a member of Woodland Church of the Brethren in Astoria and Astoria HEA.

Services were held Thursday at Woodland Church of the Brethren with Pastor Greg Beach and Pastor Shane Baker officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to her church or Hospice Compassus.
