Leona Kucera

Leona M. Kucera, 84, of Astoria died at Astoria Gardens at 7:55 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005.

She was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Canton, a daughter of Roscoe and Mabel Stockman Girard. She married Joe Paul Kucera on June 21, 1971, in Las Vegas. He died Aug. 22, 1990.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Girard; and one sister, Alleen Thompson.

Surviving are two sons, James (and Norma) Meehan of Astoria and Jerry (and Lois) Meehan of Malibu, Calif.; one daughter, Linda (and Jeff) Emunds of West Brook, Maine; four brothers Harold (and Barb) Girard of Las Vegas, Roscoe Girard Jr. of Bartonville, and Vaughn Girard and Willis (and Sandra) Girard, both of Canton; two sisters, Annabel (and Gary) Howard and Shelba Wilson, both of Canton; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was a cook at Astoria Schools and had worked as a waitress.

She was a member of Summum Christian Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Ken Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to her church or Astoria Rescue Squad.
