Virgil E. Girard, 79, of Lewistown died at 6:01 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Canton, a son of Roscoe and Mabel Stockman Girard. He married Sadie Rodgers.
He later married Martha Aldridge on Feb. 9, 1971, in Lewistown. She died Oct. 7, 2001.
He also was preceded in death by one son, Virgil Girard; one daughter, Virginia Girard; and one sister.
Surviving are two sons, Richard of Buzzville and Joseph of Pekin; one daughter, Laura Girard of Pekin; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Willis and Vaughn, both of Canton, Roscoe of Brimfield and Harold of Las Vegas; and three sisters, Leona Kucera of Astoria, and Anna Bell Howard and Shelba Jean Wilson, both of Canton.
He worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 30 years. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 974. He was a past member of the Fulton County Civil Defense.
He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Lewistown.
Services were held Monday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Stan Rapp officiating. Burial was in Bryant Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Civil Defense.
