Michael HollenbackLeslie “Michael” Hollenback, 71, of Ipava died at 1:30 p.m. July 13, 2022, at his home.

He was born March 20, 1951, in Beardstown, a son of Roy L. and Margaret A. Thompson Hollenback. On Feb. 28, 1976, he married Emily Bubb in Ipava. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Kirsten (and fiancé Jacob Duvall) Hollenback of Rushville; five maternal siblings, Jane (and Kevin) Cowan of Rushville, Bill (and Marcia) Hollenback of Ipava, Cindy (and Steve) Lewis of Flora, Blake (and Christy) Hollenback of Adair and Rebecca (and Donnie) Watson of Table Grove; 10 paternal siblings, Barbara Garcia of Granada Hills, Calif., Walter “Sonny” Sams of Georgetown, Ind., Sandy Wilson of Jefferson, Ind., Donna Murphy of Clarksville, Ind., Mary Gerrish, Debbie McDonald, Roger Sams and Kevin Sams, all of Pinckneyville, Randy Williams of Golden, Colo., and Keith Langston of Ava.

He was preceded in death by one maternal sister, Deborah Lindsey; and one paternal brother, William Dyche.

He was a US Navy veteran, serving eight years with a rank of Machinist Mate 1st Class on the USS Nimitz. He worked for DOT Foods as an over-the-road truck driver and driver trainer.

He was a longtime member of the DOT Foods Charitable Committee and a member of Ipava Masonic Lodge, Ipava American Legion Post, Fulton County Board of Health and Ipava Christian Church.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Brant Reed officiating. Masonic Services also were held. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery with military rites provided by the Ipava American Legion Post.

Memorials may be made to the Mike Hollenback Memorial Fund and will be distributed by the family to several different organizations.
