He was born Oct. 18, 1943, in Fulton County, a son of Scott and Lela Hampton Hammack. He married Donna Friday on May 28, 1968, in Frederick. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Lori (and Gerald Dorris) Fischer of Southern Illinois and Bonnie (and Danny Wheeler Sr.) Hammack of Pleasant View; three sons, Douglas (and Ann) Hammack Jr. of Vermont, Ill., and Russell Hammack and Wayne Hammack, both of Pleasant View; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jack Olroyd; one sister, Lucille Larson; and five brothers, Ralph, Donald, Doyle, Dale and Larry Hammack.
He worked several different jobs including Oscar Mayer in Beardstown, farming, numerous sawmills and logging with his brothers.
Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Mike Shirley officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria.
