Ralph E. Hammack, 74, of rural Browning, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at his home.

He was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Isabel Township, Fulton County, a son of Scott W. and Lela Elizabeth Hampton Hammack. He married Hazel C. Foutch on Feb. 11, 1947, in Peoria. She died April 21, 1993, in Rushville. He also was preceded in death by three sons, Jim, Tom and Bill, one daughter, Barb, one brother and one sister.

Surviving are four brothers, Doyle of Havana, Dale of Astoria, Donald “Can” of Ipava and Douglas of Meredosia; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was employed at Keystone Steel and Wire Co. in Bartonville, K. Casswoods Timbermill and farmed at Knob Hill Farm. He was a member of the Schuyler-Brown FS Co-op and Schuyler County Farm Bureau. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Collis Trone officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria.
