Donald HammackDonald W. Hammack, 78, of Ipava died at 9:27 a.m. Aug. 22, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born Dec. 7, 1932, in Havana, a son of Scott W. and Lela E. Hampton Hammack. He married Ruby Friday on Nov. 12, 1959, in Beardstown. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Donnie Hammack of Browning; one daughter, Diane (and Bruce) Sanders of Lewistown; one brother, Douglas Hammack of Meredosia; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Morris; and four brothers, Dale, Doyle, Ralph and Larry Hammack.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1953-55.

He worked at Bader and Company in Vermont. He also was a logger, Pleasant Township Road Commissioner for nine years, Oakland Township Road Commissioner for one year and a caretaker of Summum Cemetery for over 24 years.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Reverend Darrell Auten officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Summum Cemetery in Astoria with military rites provided by Astoria American Legion Post #25.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
