Terry L. Hayes, 59, of Vermont died at 10:15 a.m. Jan. 7, 2011, at his home.

He was born Nov. 26, 1951, in Macomb, a son of Charles and Geraldine McFaden Hayes. He married Nancy Kinne on April 1, 2000, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are maternal grandmother, Lena McFaden of Macomb; his parents; three sons, Tony (and Shantell) Hayes of Vermont, Brian (and Chrystal) Hayes and Joe (and Jenny) Hayes, both of Astoria; one daughter, Patricia Hayes of Havana; two stepsons, Mitch Vance of Vermont and Steven (and Sam) Vance of Bernadotte; one stepdaughter, Shannon Lawson of Vermont; two brothers, Rick (and Kandi) Hayes of Table Grove and Randy (and Kami) Hayes of Macomb; 10 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one infant son, Greg Hayes; and one brother, William Hayes.

He served as an SP4 in the United States Army from 1971 until 1972. He was then released to serve in the Army National Guard until 1977.

He was a welder for Bushnell Tank and was a truck driver for Bader and Co., Western Illinois Grain and J.B. Jones. He was a certified welder and a certified truck mechanic.

He was a member of Carrol Rankin American Legion Post #26 of Vermont.

Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Rob Harrison officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery.
