William HayesWilliam H. “Bill” Hayes, 58, of Cuba died at 1 a.m. Aug. 10, 2008, at his home.

He was born March 16, 1950, in Macomb, a son of Charles and Geraldine McFadden Hayes Jr. He married Merriletta Smith on July 7, 1973, in Sidell. She survives.

Also surviving are his parents of Macomb; his grandmother, Lena McFadden of Macomb; two sons, William H. (and Emily A.) Hayes Jr. of Monmouth and Jamie L. (and Lisa A.) Hayes of Canton; three brothers, Terry (and Nancy) Hayes of Vermont, Rick (and Kandi) Hayes of Table Grove and Randy (and Kami) Hayes of Macomb; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1972.

He worked at Cuba Farmers Elevator until its closing, and later worked many years for Bader and Company. He later worked for City of Cuba.

He was a member and former director for Cuba ESDA, a member of Cuba America Legion Russell Smith Post 533, a past scoutmaster for Cuba BSA Troop 102 and a volunteer for American Red Cross.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery with military rites conducted by his American Legion post. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home.
