Mary Hummer

Mary E. Hummer, 72, of Burlington, Iowa, formerly of Astoria, died at 11:15 p.m. July 25, 2010, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

She was born Jan. 11, 1938, in Sterling, a daughter of Henry Franklin and Lille May Ames Hummer.

Surviving are three sisters, Wilma (and Leland) Fitch of Bushnell, Linda Conley of New London, Mo., and Janet Desideri of Cicero; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Gamm; and one infant brother, Norman Hummer.

She worked as a home healthcare provider, a CNA and a ward clerk for 12 years.

She was a member of Woodland Church of the Brethren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Greg Beach officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria.

Memorials may be made to her church.
