Ansel HumphreyAnsel B. “Andy” Humphrey, 89, of Peoria, formerly of Browning, died at 9:45 p.m. Dec. 30, 2009, at Bel-Wood Nursing Home in Peoria.

He was born April 2, 1920, in Browning, a son of William and Lela Marie Belville Humphrey. He married Evelyn Olsen on Dec. 20, 1946, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2008.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Allie Humphrey; and four sisters, Garnet Swartz, Ethel Pribish, Leona Bollinger and Emma Hamlin.

Surviving are two sisters, June Barnett and Margaret (and Gary) Bopp, both of Astoria; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend and caretaker, Toni Morrison.

He was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Army in The European-African-Middle Eastern Theater from 1942 until 1945.

He was employed by Hiram Walker Distillery in Peoria for 39 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Peoria and Peoria Masonic Lodge.

Services were held Monday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel with Pastor John Bagley officiating. Burial was in Parkview Cemetery with the U.S. Army conducting military honors.
