Phillip "Joe" Haney Jr.Phillip Eugene “Joe” Haney Jr., 52, of Vermont died at 4 p.m. Oct. 13, 2007, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Oct. 19, 1954, in Macomb, a son of Phillip Eugene “John” and Ruby Hilton Haney Sr. He first married Patty Reedy in Rushville. He later married Donna Leach Mustread on June 29, 1996, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Scott Dean (and Tina) Haney of Astoria; one daughter, Mandy Joline (and Shane) Shannon of Bushnell; his father and stepmother, John and Barbara Haney of Vermont; one stepson, Dale Vincent Mustread Jr. of Rushville; two stepdaughters, Jesica Jean Mustread of Rushville and JoAnna Sue Mustread of Macomb; one brother, Steve (and Tess) Haney of Vermont; two sisters, Sharon (and Randall) Stracker of Table Grove and Ann (and Dave) Thomas of Vermont; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Haney.

He worked as a mechanic with Kost Implement in Vermont for five years. Later, he worked for Clayton Mark Foundry (Vermont Foundry) in the maintenance department for 20 years. From 1997 to 2006, he worked at Rich Lumber in Beardstown.

He was a volunteer for Vermont Fire Department for eight years, and a member of Rushville Moose Lodge #506. For eight years, he was a trustee for Oakland Township in Schuyler County. He served several years as president of UAW Local #844.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Rosalee Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Vermont Rescue Squad, American Cancer Society or Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
