Jack E. Heflin, 82, of Astoria died at 6:50 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at his home.

He was born May 11, 1921, in Vermont, a son of Ed and Mary Heflin. He married Susan Margaret Curless in 1939 in Macomb. She died May 11, 1988.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Joe Heflin.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Jo (and Shelby) Magee of Astoria; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

He worked for Broadway Super Service in Astoria and Amax Coal Company-Sunspot Mine. He was in the 5th Ranger Battalion during World War II.

He was a 50-year member of the Vermont Masonic Lodge #116 AF/AM, Astoria American Legion Post #25 and UMWA.

Visitation will be held tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Masonic rites at 8 p.m. conducted by Vermont Masonic Lodge #116 AF/AM. Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home with Eric W. Trone officiating. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Astoria American Legion Post #25.

Memorials may be made to Astoria American Legion Post #25 or Astoria Rescue Squad.
