Martin Hoke, Retired Farmer, Dies

Martin C. Hoke, 72, of Sciota, retired farmer, died Friday in a Galesburg hospital. He had been in poor health several years. His death was attributed to a heart condition.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Clugston Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Hall will officiate, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

He was born April 27, 1890 near Table Grove to Emanuel and Alice Jane Lau Hoke. He resided in the Table Grove community until 1943, when he moved to near Macomb. In 1961 he moved to Sciota. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and Argyle Presbyterian Church and had been active in community affairs.

He was married Jan. 1, 1920, to Blanche A. Higbee, who survives with a son, Gaylord Hoke, RR1, Macomb, and three grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Defenbaugh of Peoria and Mrs. Amanda Chambers of Mt. Auburn, Iowa, and a half-sister, Mrs. Dollie Reneau of Canton, also survive. A brother, Ross Hoke, two half-brothers and seven half-sisters are deceased.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today. The family will meet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.
