Marjorie GroverMarjorie Fern (Shawgo) Grover, 92, of Kirksville, Mo., formerly of Memphis, Mo. (1989-2005), Havana (1966-89) and Astoria (1928-66) died at 4:42 a.m. June 11, 2021, in Verona at the home of her daughter, Dixie (and Jerry) Stitt.

She was born July 2, 1928, north of Summum, the daughter of Raymond and Millie Malott Shawgo. She married Benjamin Dayton Grover on Nov. 16, 1945, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 2008.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Beiermann; and three brothers, Lawrence, Aubrey and Phillip Shawgo.

Surviving are one brother, Raymond (and Edie) Shawgo Jr. of Galesburg; two daughters, Dixie (and Jerry) Stitt of Verona and Susan (and Dennis) Thompson of Lenoir City, Tenn.; three sons, Larry (and Debbie) Grover of Washington, Ill., and Roger (and Phyllis) Grover and Steven (and Melinda) Grover, both of Memphis, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She has been residing with her children since COVID hit last March, 2020, as her health began to decline at the same time.

She worked at the Nu-way Laundry and at the Queen Anne Dairy Store in Havana. She and Ben retired and moved to Memphis, Mo., in 1989. In 2005, Ben became a resident of Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville, Mo. She moved to St. Andrews Senior Living to be close to him and continue to be his primary caregiver.

When she was age 16, she chose to follow the simple teachings of Jesus, enjoying fellowship meetings of worship service held in the home and continued living her faith throughout her life.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., in Memphis, Mo.: family will receive visitors from 4-6 p.m. with funeral service to follow conducted by Arlene Leszewski and Cheri Fisk, ministers of the gospel story. The service at Shawgo Memorial Home, 207 E. Broadway in Astoria, will be conducted on Thursday. Family will be present from noon to 2 p.m. with funeral service at 2 p.m. conducted by Jeff Thayer and John Knochenmus, ministers of the gospel, with the graveside service to follow. Burial will be at Summum Cemetery.
