Philip E. Shawgo, 69, of Springfield died Wednesday at his residence.

He was born June 18, 1926, in Ipava, a son of Raymond and Millie Malott Shawgo. He married Lois Stambaugh on Sept. 23, 1949. She survives.

Mr. Shawgo was a resident of Springfield since 1949. He retired as a shop foreman from the Illinois National Guard in 1981 and retired from the Army National Guard in 1986 as a chief warrant officer No. 4. He was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post No. 755.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Robin C. (Sharon) Bomke of Indianapolis, Ind.; one son, Gary L. Shawgo of Springfield; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Dayton “Ben” (Marjorie F.) Grover of Memphis, Mo.; three brothers, Laurence O. and Raymond Shawgo, Jr., both of Galesburg, and Aubrey Shawgo of Springfield; and two uncles.

Graveside services were held Friday at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Rev. Ted Harvey officiating. Staab Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Memorial Medical Center Hospice Program.
