Fay L. Gilson, 85, Of Astoria, Dies

Fay L. Gilson, 85, of Astoria died at 3:36 p.m. Sunday at the Graham Hospital in Canton, following an illness of about two weeks. He had resided at a Lewistown nursing home the past two years.

Mr. Gilson, a lifelong Astoria resident, was born Aug. 21, 1881 in Fulton County to Alex and Eva Babcock Gilson. He married Della Slaight at Ipava Nov. 29, 1906. She survives with one daughter, Mrs. Fern Workman of Astoria, one son, Willis Gilson of Peoria, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one half-brother, Earl Smith of Ankeny, Iowa.

Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Gilson was a member of the E.U.B. Church in Astoria.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Dr. Junior Akers, pastor of the Astoria Evangelical United Brethren Church, will officiate, and burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Friends may call at Shawgo’s Memorial Home Wednesday afternoon and evening.
