Willard FranceWillard G. France, 92, of Astoria died Nov. 25, 2019, at his home.

He was born July 10, 1927, in Astoria, a son of Glen and Verna Brillhart France. He married Roberta Mansfield. He later married Margaret Peg Dean in 1984. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2018.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Willis France.

Surviving are one son, Joe (and Tana) France of Astoria; two daughters, Teresa (and Rick) Blythe of Springfield and Janine (and Steve) Danner of Astoria; two stepsons, Steve (and Carol) Dean and Scott (and Brenda) Dean, both of Astoria; one stepdaughter, Kathy (and Bob) Bridges of Astoria; one sister, Dorothy Danner of Decatur; four grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 21 step great-grandchildren.

He was a coal miner for AMAX Sunspot Mine in Vermont, Ill. He also farmed.

He was in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Seabee from 1945-46.

He was a member of Astoria American Legion Post #25, The United Mine Workers of America and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Friday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery with military rites provided by the Astoria American Legion Post #25.

Memorials may be made to Astoria American Legion Post #25 or the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
