Forrest "Gene" EasleyForrest Eugene “Gene” Easley, 78, of Ipava died at 10:25 a.m. April 19, 2018, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.

He was born April 30, 1939, in Vermont, the son of Forrest and Bonnie Bollinger Easley. He married Barbara Joan “Jo” Cramblet on Aug. 2, 1958, in Vermont. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Monte (and Penny) Easley and Kevin (and Marcy) Easley, both of Ipava, and Kelly (and Leslie) Easley of Timewell; two God-daughters, Amanda (and David) Grove of Macomb and Andrea Sears of Ipava; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Steele, Charolette Baumgartner and Nora Abernathy.

He worked at the Vermont Foundry for 46 years and also helped his wife with the day care she ran for 44 years.

He was a member of Berean Christian Church, where he and his wife taught Sunday school for several years and he was on the Building and Grounds Committee. He coached Little League and helped the Boy Scouts to build their mini-racers in Ipava. For being respected citizens of Ipava, Gene and Jo were once Grand Marshals of Ipava’s Camp Ellis Days Parade.

Services were held Monday at his church with Pastor Doug Krukewitt officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery.
