Velma DeanVelma Maxine Lybarger Crabtree Dean, 90, of Vermont died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005, at her home.

She was born April 19, 1915, near Youngstown, a daughter of Lester and Florance Bowen Lybarger. She married Rodney Crabtree on April 5, 1937. She later married Clyde Dean on Jan. 5, 1955. He died Dec. 19, 2003.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Randy Crabtree; two brothers, Rollin and Freeman; and one sister, Vera Courtney.

Surviving are one daughter, Marla (and Don) Butcher of Vermont; one son, Renne (and Theresa) Crabtree of Vermont; one brother, Lester Lybarger of Springfield; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four stepgrandsons; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.

She operated a grocery store in Vermont for 50 years. She also operated a grocery store in Bardolph, Dean's Cafe in Vermont from 1963 to 1965 and Dean's Mini Service from 1973 to 1975, and worked at Merle's Rexall.

She was a member of Vermont Christian Church.

She was serving as noble grand of Harmony Rebekah Lodge 53 and was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 79.

Services were held Monday at her church with Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Rebekah services were conducted by her lodge on Sunday. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to McDonough District Hospital's Hospice Program in Macomb or to Harmony Rebekah Lodge 53.
