LESTER LEWIS LYBARGER

VeteranLester Lybarger

Lester Lewis Lybarger, 84, of Springfield, formerly of Champaign and Carthage, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Heritage Manor Continued Care.

He was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Flatwood Township, Schuyler County, the son of Lester Lawrence and Florence E. Bowen Lybarger. He married Marilee F. Twichell in 1949. She died in 2003.

Surviving are three daughters, Joyce Scott of Ogden, Lesslie (and Earl) Morgan of Loami and Sheryl (and Roger) Sinnott of Champaign; one son, Duane (and Pat) of Champaign; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Vermont High School in 1939.

He was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, and a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He attained the rank of master sergeant and received the Bronze Star, president unit citation and six battle stars.

He retired from Country Companies Insurance as an adjuster.

He was a member of 391st Bomb Wing, 8th Air Force, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

Graveside services were held Monday at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Rev. Jerene Houser officiating.

Staab Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
