VeteranWillis G. Danner Dies Unexpectedly

Willis G. Danner, 71, of Astoria died unexpectedly at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 1990, at Memorial Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, a son of Benjamin S. and Anna Gentzler Danner. He married Margaret E. Davis on Nov. 11, 1945, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Jack B. of Normal; one daughter, Georgiana Clemens of Astoria; four grandchildren; Justin, Shawna, Joseph and Michael; one sister, Marie McCance of Beardstown; and four brothers, Hart, Curt and Chauncey, all of Astoria, and Delbert of Beardstown.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, two sisters and six brothers.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Astoria American Legion Post 25; Astoria Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #144; Astoria Masonic Lodge $100, AF&AM; Ansar Shrine of Springfield; and the Scottish Rite Consistory, Valley of Springfield.

He worked at Danner Electric from 1944 to 1962, was maintenance superintendent at Astoria Fibra-Steel Inc. from 1962 to 1981, and for the past nine years was street superintendent for the village of Astoria, retiring this year.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. James Shirley officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
