Delbert DannerDelbert D. Danner, 88, of New Berlin died at 6:15 p.m. Dec. 15, 2008, at Heritage Manor in Beardstown.

He was born Aug. 5, 1920, in Astoria, a son of Benjamin S. and Anna Gentzler Danner. He first married Helen Louise LaRue. She preceded him in death. He later married Edith Vallery. She preceded him in death. He then married Cheryl Farris Smith on May 12, 1978, in Beardstown. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, James E. (and Susan) Danner of Dana Point, Calif.; two stepsons, Edward D. (and Maria) Smith and Michael D. (and Donna) Smith, both of Hixson, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Elizabeth A. Bomke of Sacramento, Calif., and Christi J. (and Kevin) DeGroot of New Berlin; three grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by 10 brothers, Elzie, Orley, Curt, Melvin, Jay, Chauncey, Willis, Carroll, Hart and Donald Danner; and three sisters, Clara Danner, Marie McCance and Ada Parry.

He was a 1938 graduate of Astoria High School. He retired from CIPS as an electrical substation engineer in 1982 after 32 years of service. Prior to working at CIPS, he worked in electrical and plumbing retail.

He was active at First Lutheran Evangelical Church in Beardstown before moving to New Berlin. He also was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Springfield, Siloam Springs Earth Sciences Club, Lincoln Orbit Earth Sciences Society, Geodeland Earth Sciences Club and ELKS Lodge in Beardstown.

Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. A memorial gathering was held Saturday.
