VeteranElzie R. Diehl Dies In Hospital

Elzie R. Diehl, 83, formerly of Ipava, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 3, 1979, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

Mr. Diehl was born May 1, 1895, near Ipava, the son of Benjamin S. and Emma Weese Diehl. He married Gladys Marshall on Mar. 20, 1920, at Ipava. She died Nov. 6, 1962.

He was a retired grocery clerk, a veteran of WWI and a member of the American Legion. He lived in Denver, Colo., for the past several years, moving to the Astoria Care Center several months ago.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ina Griffith of Aurora, Colo.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Miss Corda Diehl of Macomb.

One son and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava with Rev. Gary Hardesty officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery.
