Gravel Road Accident Claims Three Astorians

A head-on collision between a car and a pickup truck about 6:30 Saturday evening on the Bluff City road southeast of Astoria, claimed the lives of three Astoria people, and seriously injured another.

Dead were both occupants of the car, Robert Lee Danner and his son Earl Dennis, 12, and Carl Moose, 16, a passenger in the truck. Ted Moose, driver of the truck was taken to the Mason District Hospital at Havana with head and chest injuries. He remains in serious condition.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Shawgo Memorial home by Rev. Fred Thompson for both Robert Lee Danner and his son, Earl Dennis, 12. They were members of the Sheldons Grove Methodist church and had lived all their lives in this area. Mr. Danner was a farmer.

Robert Danner

Born Feb. 7, 1923, in Astoria, a son of Earl and Edna (Smith) Danner he was married on April 12, 1941 in Missouri, to Ruth Rhoades, who is living in Rushville. On May 28, 1959, in Astoria, he married Katherine Humphrey, who also survives. His father, Earl Danner, lives in Canton.

Other survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Edith Shawgo of Galesburg, Mrs. Sally Poppenhager of Astoria, and Miss Linda Diane, at home; two sons, Robert Ray and David Lee, also at home; three brothers, Wilford and DeVere Danner, both of Galesburg, and Oliver Danner, living in Missouri; two sisters, Miss Mourene Danner, and Mrs. Bernita Schriner, in Colorado; two grandchildren, and a grandmother, Mrs. Anna McKinley.

Earl Danner

Earl Dennis Danner, born May 10, 1947 at Astoria to Robert and Ruth Rhoades Danner. The maternal grandmother, Mrs. William Hughes, of Astoria, paternal grandmother, Mrs. Belle Danner, and paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. McKinley, also survive.

Burial was in Astoria cemetery.

Carl Moose

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the E. U. B. church for Carl Dean Moose, with the Rev. Fred Thompson officiating.

Born August 25, 1943, a son of Glenn and Mildred (Baldry) Moose, he spent his entire life in the Astoria community. He is survived by his parents, five brothers, Donald, John, Gary, David and Teddy; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Baldry, and paternal grandfather, Sam Moose.
