Richard ChambersRichard (Richy) Chambers, 75, of Lewistown died April 10, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bloomington.

He was born July 31, 1947, a son of Howard and Alice Chenoweth Chambers. He married Marcia Shields on April 26, 1980. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Brett (and Lisa Hebb) Chambers of Ipava and Eric Chambers of East Peoria; one daughter, Lana (and Rhett) Farrell of Savoy; two brothers, Larry (and Elaine) Chambers of Bernadotte and Lee Chambers of Ipava; four sisters, Geraldine Myers and Dorla Helle, both of Farmington, Judy Rench of Canton and Lynn (and Roy) Spangler of Bernadotte; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Frank Chambers; one sister, Connie Fields; and one great-grandchild, Oaklynn Maberry.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, a member and past Commander of the Ipava American Legion Post 17, a member and past Commander of Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and a member of UAW Local 974. He recently received his 50-year membership pin for his membership at Ipava Masonic Lodge AF&AM 213.

He began his employment at Caterpillar after his return from Vietnam, retiring in 1995. He then held two terms as Lewistown Township Road Commissioner and most recently worked part time for Bernadotte Township. He was instrumental in starting the Fulton County Fireworks where he headed the committee for many years. He also was instrumental in starting Camp Ellis Days where he also served as chairman.

A public graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ipava Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the Lewistown VFW Post 5001, the Ipava American Legion Post 17 and the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. There will be no visitation. A Masonic Service will be held for family. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.
