Jo Ann Cooper

Jo Ann Cooper, 85, of Astoria died at 2:27 p.m. July 12, 2017, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born April 25, 1932, in Astoria Township in Fulton County, the daughter of Clinton “Jim” and Gwendolyn Stauffer Ray. She married Robert Cooper in March of 1951 in Sciota. He preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2016.

She also was preceded in death by one son-in-law, David Tomlinson.

Surviving is one daughter, Roberta Tomlinson of Cuba.

She worked for the Schuyler County Farm Bureau and Home Extension from 1951-58. She was a bookkeeper for the Township Officials of Illinois for over 50 years, retiring in September 2015. In 2009, she received the TOI President’s Award, an award selected by the TOI president for outstanding contribution to TOI and township government. She was the only employee who worked for all three of TOI’s executive directors.

She was a member of Astoria Christian Church.

She served on the Astoria Public Library Board, and conducted funeral dinners at her church.

A private graveside service was held Monday at Astoria Cemetery with Gary Sheets officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
