Doris "Babs" CurlessDoris “Babs” Curless, 81, former resident of Astoria died March 9, 2014.

She was born Dec. 19, 1932, in Minneapolis, Minn., a daughter of Oliver and Doris Moore. She married Joe H. Curless on March 5, 1949, in Rushville.

Surviving are one son, Harley (and Kay) Curless of Havana; three daughters, Jan (and Norman) Jones of Ipava, Deby Curless Starkey of Sun City, Calif., and Linda (and Steve) Chase of Weldon Spring, Mo.; one brother, Joe (and Carolyn) Goodrich of Rushville; one sister, Eileen Broman of southern California; eight grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Spence and Virginia Banks.

She opened and operated Bab’s Delta Diner in 1994 alongside her daughter Deby as her manager. She was the trendsetter for the waterfront of Suisan City, Calif., as the first business to open on the Delta with her homemade baked goods. Bab’s Delta Diner was awarded the “Best Breakfast Restaurant” in Solano County, Calif., for 18 years in a row.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Patrick Oehlschlager officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.
