Wilmer Cripe

Wilmer C. Cripe, 94, of Decatur, formerly of Astoria, died at 6:10 a.m. Aug. 27, 2012, at Fair Havens Christian Home in Decatur.

He was born May 16, 1918, in Bader, a son of Oliver John and Alma Mae Miller Cripe. He married Wilma Irene Perkins Wise on Feb. 28, 1937, in Browning. She preceded him in death on Oct. 8, 1996.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Morris Cripe.

Surviving are two sons, Johnnie Leroy (and Dolly) Cripe of Springfield and Verle Dean (and Barbara) Cripe of Mount Zion; one brother, Hubert Cripe of Astoria; five grandchildren; and eight grandchildren.

He was a farmer, electrician and handyman.

He was a life-long resident of the Bader-Astoria area except for a brief time of employment in Phoenix, Ariz., in the 1970s. After a hospital stay in May, he moved to be near his son, Dean in Mount Zion.

He was still active in Bader Christian Church into his 90s. Even in the nursing home, his focus was on reading the Bible and being present at a worship service.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Matt Haberman officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Bader Christian Church.
