Charles Cable And George McDonald Killed In Crash

Charles Cable, 32, of Vermont, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Cable of Astoria, and George McDonald, 15, son of John McDonald of Vermont, were fatally injured when a stock truck Cable was driving crashed into a tree and burned near Brighton, Ill., Tuesday morning.

Cable apparently died in the accident or shortly after, and the youth died after in an Alton hospital. Cable’s truck burst into flames when it struck the tree. He was pinned in the cab and was pronounced dead at the scene. The McDonald youth was found near the truck by a passerby who pulled off his burning clothing. McDonald said he was asleep in the cab of the truck and did not know what happened.

Cable had taken a load of cattle to St. Louis for Edmund Snowden of Vermont and was on the return trip when the accident occurred.

A complete obituary was not available at press time but will be given in next week’s issue.

Funeral arrangements for Cable will be announced by the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria.
