Lester Burgard

Lester BurgardLester E. Burgard, 87, of Havana died at 6:23 p.m. Sept. 19, 2017, at Havana Health Care Center.

He was born March 5, 1930, in Littleton, the son of Andrew Burley and Irma Elizabeth Bollinger Burgard. He married Rosa Lee Danner on Aug. 27, 1949. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Jerry Burgard and Pastor Rick (and Cathy) Burgard, both of Havana, and Lyle (and Pamela) Burgard of Browning; two daughters, Sheila (and Gary) Sloter of Astoria and Loretta (and Robert) Mansfield of Warsaw, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Marian Huseman.

He worked for the railroad. He then went to work for Farr Trucking in Table Grove, and later worked at International Harvester in Canton for 29 years, retiring in 1983. He became an ordained minister with Nazarene Church on Aug. 14, 1970. He pastored churches in Bath, Astoria, Fairbury and Rushville. After his retirement, he did pulpit fill for area churches when needed.

Services were held Saturday at Havana Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Rick Burgard officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria.
