Robert BurgardRobert E. Burgard, 76, of Ipava died at 6:55 p.m. Aug. 20, 2013, at his home.

He was born Nov. 13, 1936, in Canton, a son of Harold "Preacher" and Nelda Smith Burgard.

Surviving are two daughters, Kim Burgard of Round Rock, Texas, and Jodi Burgard of Nicoma Park, Okla.; two sons, Rob (and Nancy) Burgard of Table Grove and Lanny (and Angie) Burgard of Ipava; one brother, John (and Rose) Burgard of Ipava; three sisters, Lois Gorsage of Lewistown, Luann (and Lowell) Davis of London Mills and Rebecca (and Don) Heller of Table Grove; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lanny Burgard.

He was an Army veteran, serving from 1955-56 with Co. L, 35th Infantry.

He worked at Sun Spot Mine in Vermont. He also was owner of the Wagon Wheel in Topeka and Bobby B's in Ipava. He currently was manager of the Burgard Family Trust.

He was a member of Ipava American Legion.

He earned his pilot's license in 2002.

Services were held Saturday at Ipava United Presbyterian Church with Reverend Danie deBeer officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment was in Ipava Cemetery. Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Ipava American Legion or donor's choice.
