Lowell DavisLowell D. Davis, 76, of London Mills died at 11:50 a.m. June 12, 2014, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Canton.

He was born Feb. 21, 1938, in Fulton County, Ark., the son of Guthrie “Fat” and Bea Cantrell Davis. He married Luann Burgard on Aug. 16, 1959, in Ipava. She survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Michelle “Shelley” (and John) Wilson of Miles, Iowa, Kamie (and Gayle) Davis of St. Louis, Mo., Daphne Davis and Jeanie (and David) Fili, both of London Mills; one sister, Reta (and Mike) Thurman of Maquon; and seven grandchildren.

He worked and served apprenticeships at numerous newspapers, eventually settling in at Peoria Journal Star in 1967 as manager of the Composing Room, retiring in 1996.

He spent his early years in the communities of Bryant and Lewistown, graduating from Lewistown High School in 1956. He and his family farmed.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge and served as secretary for Charolais Association for several years.

A private memorial service was held Sunday, June 15. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
