John "Jack" Baldry Jr., 78, of Astoria died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born March 15, 1924, in Astoria, a son of John H. "Jack" and Inez Danner Baldry. He married Hattie Melvina Walton on Nov. 20, 1954, in Palmyra, Mo. She died on April, 8, 1972.

Also preceding him in death were one brother, Eldon; and one sister, Mildred Moose.

Surviving are one son, Anthony of Lewistown; one daughter, Margaret Miller of Astoria; one great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Peggy Jordan of Purvis, Miss., and Bessie Rose of Stockton, Calif.

He worked at Caterpillar Inc. in Mapleton for many years, retiring in 1986, and was a member of UAW Local 974.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Astoria American Legion Post 25.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Clifford Parry officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad.
